Test of Strength

Ok, I am sitting here thinking about a small bag of mixed nuts. I thought that by this time I would stop thinking about food but obviously NOT. For me to reach my original goal of 5 days I have a mere 28 hours, 8 of which will be occupied by sleeping. I don't think I could have made it this far without the relief of sleep, easily knocking off 8 hours at a time.

Anyway, back to the nuts. So, I was thinking about sneaking one of those precious morsels into my mouth and just sucking off the salt. The thought then progressed to actually chewing the nut very very very slowly, savoring the texture and the flavor. Then, at the very last moment, I would spit out the macerated mess into the garbage.

Could I do that? Would I be strong enough to spit it out? Would that be "cheating"?How easily it would be to just swallow it. The question then popped into my head, which is the better test of strength? Being on the brink of starvation, chewing a nut and just before it slips down your throat, spit it out; or sticking to your original plan of no solid food for 5 full days?????

Downhill

Well, I have just a little over 36 hours left in my fast. Yesterday was tough, I really wanted to bag this whole idea and eat but I held my ground. I even dreamed that I ate a piece of cheese and 1/2 an apple and felt horrible. I felt like I cheated and I was gonna have to start over from day 1. My girlfriend who was brave enough to try the salt water flush said she had been "purging" all day. And in the late afternoon she thought that she was done, finally. She was in the car after stopping by Jack in the Box, she picked up dinner for her kids. How she could stand to be in the car with that smell is beyond me? She assures me that I will be more selective of what I place in my mouth, I am a doubter!

48 Hours

As I sit here drinking my Detox tea, I am wondering when I will poop? I drank this same tea last night and I did not have "the urge" at all. My girlfriend who is participating in this adventure with me had an accident at work today. She is partaking in the Salt Water Flush. .She was wearing white jeans. I am afraid. Is that really necessary?

How do I feel? I feel fine. I don't feel weak or tired, yet. The hunger comes and goes. I am still applauding myself when I don't have pains. Everything still looks fabulously tasty. The challenge is really in my head. Commercials, fast food smells, TV shows, everywhere my eyes fall, lands on some sort of food tempting me to failure. My mind weakens and says:

"Oh just eat something, quit drooling. You know you want it!"

Right now I am planning my vegetable soup to be ready at 8pm Friday night.

Refrigerator Magic

So, have you ever walked over to your fridge, peeked inside only to find absolutely nothing to eat? Have you done that and then gone back 5 minutes later to come to the exact same conclusion? I have and I now have the cure for that. Try fasting. I am working on my 25th hour of fasting and the 2 times I opened the door to the fridge, everything has successfully made me salivate. Just the thought of the texture of certain foods gets that ole drip system running. Well, I feel ok. I find it amazing how weak my mind is! Counting the hours, thinking ahead to what I am gonna eat when I do begin eating again, applauding myself for not noticing my hunger pains, and having doubts that I will make my original goal are occupying my thoughts. Can I really do this? I love food? Will this really work in changing my eating habits? Will I lose those cravings? Is the food gonna taste good when I do eat again? OMG, will there still be food left? I just know that someone is gonna eat all the food in the entire world and I will never get to taste cheese pizza again.

Fasting

Well, the time is nearing! Starting Sunday October 16 in the early afternoon/evening, I am going to attempt a 5-10 day fast, taking in nothing except the Master Cleanser Lemonade concoction. www.healthy.net/scr/article.asp?ID=1996
My primary goal is 5 days but I am told that once you pass the 3rd or 4th day, it is smooth sailing and a piece of cake. Only you really don't get cake. So, my secondary goal is to go for the full 10 days. I am excited to attempt such a feat but I am also scared of failure. I did attempt a 3 day fast last spring and only made it for 40 hours. My motivation for such an endeavor you ask??? I have several:
1) Lose weight!
2) Rid my body of toxins, good ole fashion colon cleanse!
3) And possibly change my eating habits to a more vegetarian/non processed food diet.

That is it! I will attempt to keep you all posted on my progress.
