Vote Response #7

You have to vote because your Dad says you have to vote. If you don't he's going to kick you in the ass! Everyone that thinks their vote doesn't count who fails to vote can and has, as recently as the last Presidential election, resulted in a person being elected who otherwise would not have been elected. Those persons elected are the ones that set the policies that are implimented by the government. That government affect every aspect of all of our lives. GO to the polls on Nov. 2 and VOTE!! (Responder-Gee I wonder who this is?)

Dad,If I were to vote for Michael Badnarik. Will my vote count then? If so, what will it count for? Will this result in a person being elected who otherwise would not have been elected? I will answer that for you, NO! Even if I vote for John Kerry, Nevada will still go for Bush. Will my vote count then? Again, I will answer for you, NO! So, it looks like, in order for my vote to actually count, I must vote for Bush. Yes, the government does affect every aspect of our lives and the US would be a better democracy if they practiced proportional representation and had more than 2 political parties. So, Dad your arguement is Bullshit and I am glad my ass is 3000 miles away. (Me)

Who the hell is Michael Badnarik? I didn't know that Nevada had already counted the votes in the Presidential election. It will probably go Republican but who knows for sure. Guess you do. They say Bush has Alabama too but that's not stopping me. Some states do select their Electoral votes by Senate or Congressional Districts. Maybe you can get involved and help change Nevadas system of choosing Electors.Bright young adults need to get involved within the existing system if they want make things change. I've got a 3000 mile long right leg. That's why I walk funny.---- Hope you work through your frustrations with the political system. Love you either way. (Responder)

Dad,Michael Badnarik is the Libratarian candidate for President. It's pretty sad, I didn't know his name either, I had to look it up before emailing you last nite. So, are you agreeing with me? My vote probably doesn't count. It would be futile for me to get involved with politics here in Nevada, one state can't change the whole country. I would have to get involved in every state and I wouldn't live long enough to make it through each state. You can pull your leg back in and put it away, I will be voting. Why, you ask? Because I can. (Me)

Vote Response #6

If you don't vote, then NO, your vote doesn't count. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy; your opinion doesn't matter, and your letting those that DO vote make decisions for you. If you choose not to vote, then you're saying loud and clear, that YOU DON'T CARE enough about yourself or your community to take an hour out of your day to express your opinion. My thought...if you don't vote, then you have no right to criticize the product of the voting process. Stop whining and go live in a dictatorship!!! (Responder)

I should have clarified in my first email that I really am only referring to voting for President. I do see how voting is important at a city/local level. What if I vote for the person who loses, does my vote count then? If you are not siding with the majority then your vote does NOT count and the winner of President is decided long before people ever step in the booth. Because it is a majority rules system and the minority voters have no representation then we already are living in a dictatorship of the majority, which may or may not be my choice! I am living in a dictatorship!!! I would rather live in a free country. And tell me how often have you heard me critize the product of the voting process? I am not sure what you mean by: If you choose not to vote, then you're saying loud and clear, that YOU DON'T CARE enough about yourself or your community to take an hour out of your day to express your opinion. I don't see the relation of voting and caring for myself? (me)

Vote Response #5

Because people did die to give you the right to vote. Actually they gave you the right to choose your leader. Not reason enough? What candidate out there best represents your viewpoint? choose your best candidate. We need viable third party options and the only way to make those third parties legit is to bring in the vote. Perot was a viable third party candidate for me. To the mainstream media he was just a Republican spoiler who put Clinton in the White House. I still voted for him and I probably still would. If the media hadn't pigeon-holed him we may have had more 3rd party options. Buchanan isn't my option. Repeat: the only way to encourage third party candidates is to vote for third party candidates. The only way to send a message to the major parties that their ways are no longer acceptable is to vote third party AND vote third party candidates into office starting in your own backyard and on up the chain. (Responder)

I didn't actually respond back to this person because I think this person was on her high school debate team and was the captain! And in all actuality, I really don't know a whole heck of a lot about politics and what is happening outside my own little space and trying to argue with this person only confuses me. She uses lots of terms, phrases, names and dates that I have no idea where they came from or what they mean. She is a very intelligent friend of mine whom I value very because she is someone in my life that can get me fired up about things, henceforth an educator for me. (me)

Vote Response #4

If you don't vote, then you do not have any right to voice an opinion on what is going on with the government, or current politics. (Responder)

I agree whole heartedly with you on this! This isn't a problem for me, I can easily NOT complain about politics and about government because I am simply not interested. But if you think about it, I do have every right to voice my opinion if I so choose, I just shouldn't complain when things aren't going the way I would like them. If I were to complain, then I should have voted for the person who best supports my line of thinking. So, the question still remains, why should I vote?

Vote Response #3

You should vote because it will make you irresistible to the members of your species who are of the opposite sex from you. It is a proven fact. (Responder)

I'm sorry, WHAT????? (me)

Voting will make you irresistible to the opposite sex. You know, the underlying message of every successful advertising campaign. Vote and you will get some. O.K.? (Responder)

Vote Response #2

M. Oh my God! Why do you need any more reason than the debaucle called the 2000 elections to know that every vote does count. PLEASE DONT LET BUSH RUN THIS COUNTRY ANYMORE!!!!! Also, it is highly likely that Dave Aiazzi's race will be very close (down to a vote, perhaps?). So, will you do it for me? Please? By the way, nice website. (Responder)

Please, just tell me exactly how the Floridian people's votes counted in 2000! If I remember correctly, they didn't count, not at all, tossed right out!! I think that my whole, "Why should I vote?" question really is just on a national level. I can see how my puny little vote can be a deciding factor in a local/city government race. There isn't an electoral college to intercept my favors. Yes, I know the electoral college votes the way the public votes but in reality they can vote any way they please. I am still not convinced. (Me)

M. OK, fine - the electoral college system sucks. But since you'll be in the voting booth anyway, voting for Dave, you might as well take a leap of faith and mark that little box by Kerry's name too. Did you see the debate? I thought John Baby did a great job convincing me, at least, that he is intelligent and thoughtful enough to represent me in the world arena. (Responder)

Vote Response #1

Only 17 percent of the registered voters voted in the primary. The "religious right" people in this country are very organized and they vote do you wantthem running the country ? When very few people vote organized zealots have a much higher chance of controlling local and national governments. (Responder)

Why do you think that is? Just how organized are the "religious right"? Organized enough to stay just one step ahead of the "religious wrong"? Perhaps that 83% of the registered voters realizes the fight is futile? And what percentage of the registered voters do you think are people who just signed up outside their local grocery store, Walmart, or library not really knowing what it is they were registering for? (Me)

So don't vote just go about your merry way and let the rest of us work at keeping this city a good place to live. Every read "Atlas Shrugged"? (Responder)

I am a little bit hurt! You, of all people, I thought would be my biggest convincer to vote, I feel like you have given up on me, I am hopeless......or should I put it this way: Am I hopeless? Please, give me some credit, I do see the importance of voting at the city level, so don't worry, I will be voting for the city races and will help keep this city a good place to live, its non partisan afterall! (HA HA HA HA). It is almost like the city level races are an afterthought to the Presidential race. It like "Oh yeah, lets do the local city govenrment race too, as long as people are going to the polls for the President race!" The biggest hoopla is about the Presidential race and people look at me cross eyed when I say my vote doesn't count. Do you really think your vote counts at that level???? I have to admit, the best arguement for me to vote I came up with it myself. Because I can.
P.S. No worries, I am all alone on this podium, I won't be taking all of the smart people to live with me in some remote valley until the collapse of the overnment. Just my mind is striking! (Me)

Didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I was never able to convince you to fill out the employee survey so I didn't think I'd have any better luck convincing you to vote. (Responder)

My exact response to this has been lost in cyberspace but went something like this: Voting for President rolls around once every 4 years where the employee survey is 4 times a year! I answered it right the first time and don't appreciate when a company holds mandatory meetings telling you how you should have answered/interpreted the survey. (Me)
